This project is funded by Global Environment Facility (GEF) through the World Bank. The overall investment for this project is 33.32 million USD, of which 17 million comes from GEF. The project is implemented by the World Bank, Ministry of Environmental Protection and Ministry of Water Resources of China. Under the guidance of the two ministries, Hai River Water Resources Commission and other environmental protection and water resource management agencies in Zhangweinan River Basin, Beijing, Tianjin, and Hebei will undertake the specific works. On behalf of the MEP, FECO is in charge of this project. The objective of this project is to enhance integrated management of water resources and water environment in Hai River Basin, realize reasonable allocation of water resources, promote the efficiency and effectiveness of water use, restore ecological environment, mitigate water shortage, reduce land source pollution to Bohai and improve water environment quality in Hai River Basin and Bohai. This project comprises four components: integrated management of water resources and water environment; knowledge management (KM); sewage treatment in Tianjin’s coastal area; project management, monitoring, evaluation and training. The project was launched in September 2004 and is expected to be finished in 2010.
