Workshop Convened in Beijing for Conclusion of Sino-Swedish Drinking Water Source Management Sub-project II

The Workshop was held in Beijing on September 6-7, 2010. More than twenty representatives from MEP’s Pollution Control Department, FECO, Chinese Research Academy of Environmental Science, Environmental Protection Bureau of Hebei Province, Environmental Protection Bureau of Zhangjiakou City, Swedish experts and independent project review team attended the meeting.

At the workshop, the progress of the project was introduced and its outcomes were presented for review and discussion. According to the experts, through learning from Swedish and European experiences, this project designed a consultation mechanism for drinking water source basins in accordance with Chinese situation. It also introduced monitoring, emergency warning and response technologies, providing ideas for establishing emergency warning and response mechanism for drinking water sources in China. By targeting on China’s need for drinking water source protection, this project is practical and worth to be spread. The participants proposed comments and suggestions on disseminating the project outcomes, and conducted in-depth discussion on setting up and optimizing China’s emergency warning system by learning from Swedish experiences.(translated by He Xin)
