Pilot Program of Publicity for the Management of Mercury-Containing Wastes Launched in Chongqing by FECO

Madam Fang Li, the Deputy Director General of FECO of MEP led the Mercury Task Force of three people to Chongqing on the day before the arrival of the 42nd Earth Day, for the pilot program of awareness raising for managing mercury waste at household and community level, which is sponsored by UNEP. On April 22nd, FECO launched publicity activity focusing on the theme of mercury pollution elimination and international convention implementation at the Three Gorge Square in Chongqing Municipality, with the support of Chongqing Environmental Protection Bureau and the government of Shapingba District. The activity was conducted in various forms, including posting posters, handing out brochures, on site consultation, questionnaire survey, presenting souvenirs, and a special performance with “singing, reading and lecturing”. It was actively participated by the local people and achieved good results. Madam Fang Li presented two recycling boxes for waste batteries to the local community on behalf of FECO.

Accompanied by staff from the Chongqing EPB, the delegation headed by Madam Fang Li inspected CPI Yuanda Environmental-Protection Engineering Co. Ltd and the mercury contaminated sites of Chongqing Riyue Thermometer Plant after the activity.
