On June 1-2, 2011, the 2nd Project meeting of CCICED Special Policy Study (SPS) on mercury management in China was held in the Environmental Conventions Building in Beijing. Dr. Fang Li, Deputy Director-General of FECO and CCICED Assistant Secretary-general, Prof. Shen Guofang, Chief advisor of CCICED and Dr. David Piper, Deputy head of UNEP Chemicals, presented welcome speech. Forty-eight experts from the Ministry of Environmental Protection, international and bilateral agencies, the executive teams of this project at home and abroad attended this meeting.

At this meeting, the major tasks, challenges, international cooperation needs and international experiences on the pollution prevention and control of mercury and other heavy metals were discussed. The themed reports from all executive teams of this project were reviewed and commented by the experts. Besides, the policy recommendations and contents of the final reports were further optimized. Plans for the next step works were made for all the executive teams.（thanslated by Li Yufeng）
