The workshop on Remediation of Mercury Polluted Areas under Sino-Norwegian Capacity Building for Reducing Mercury Pollution project was held in Guiyang city, Guizhou province during November 27-29, 2012. More than 70 people from organizations and departments such as Ministry of Commerce, Guizhou Environmental Protection Bureau (EPB), Hunan EPB, Henan EPB, Shaanxi EPB, Norwegian institute for water research, Massey University, Lamar University, Ljubljana University, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Southwest University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Xiamen University attended the meeting.

The meeting focused on three topics Remediation Technology, Human health and Mechanism Study. After the meeting, the participants visited a pilot demonstration located at the suburb of Guiyang City, which was carried out by Institute of Geochemistry, Chinese Academy of Science.

The Guizhou EPB is applying for remediation projects for mercury polluted areas from the Ministry of Environmental Protection. The presentations on the technologies of relevant topics introduced by domestic and international experts at the workshop have met the Guizhou EPB’s demand on heavy metal pollution prevention and management.
