With the approval of MEP, Mr. Zhao Weijun, secretary of party committee of the Foreign Economic Cooperation Office (FECO) of the Ministry of Environmental Protection (MEP), led a delegation to visit UNIDO headquarters, meeting with Philippe Scholtès, Officer-in-Charge of the Programme Development and Technical Cooperation Division (PTC), during May 6-9, 2014. Ms Sui Hui, special advisor of Director General of UNIDO, attended the meeting. And the visit had accompanying officers from Department of Science, Technology and Standards, Department of International Cooperation, Department of Pollution Prevention and Control, of MEP.
The meeting reviewed and prospected the cooperation between both sides in the field of impementation of “POPs Convention”, implementation of “Mercury Convention” and environmental South-South cooperation projects, thoroughly exchanged opinions in the highlighted area of development of “POPs Convention” implementation projects and international promotion of the project outcomes during the GEF-6 period in the upcoming 4 year, development of “Mercury Convention” implementation projects and development of “resource utilization of discarded carcass project” in Ethiopia, and proposed constructive suggestions on project management and cooperation mechanism and further expansion of talent exchange.
The delegation visited MVA Pfaffenau--waste incineration center and METEKA—supplier of medical waste disinfection facilities, and discussed about municipal waste incineration, operation and management of medical waste disposal, and GEF project—Environmentally sustainable management of medical wastes in China (Medical Waste project).
The visit strenthened bussiness connection between FECO and UNIDO, promoted “Going out” strategy into practice, and laid foundation of further cooperation; studied and exchanged techniques and experience of waste disposal in Austria, broadened thought for better implementation of Medical Waste project.
