Director General Chen Liang Talks about Cooperation of Environmental Protection with EU Representatives in China

At invitation by EU Delegation to China, a team led by Mr. Chen Liang, Director General of Foreign Economic Cooperation Office (FECO), Ministry of Environmental Protection, visited the Delegation on January 29, 2016. The team introduced the work ideas of environmental protection amid new situation, the spirits of the National Environmental Protection Conference and key work of environmental protection, and the International Platform for Environmental Technology (3iPET), which is launched by FECO. Both sides discussed the issues about strengthening the cooperation of environmental protection technologies to foster the work underway and jointly building the 3iPET. The representatives of EU and its member countries showed strong interests in cooperation. More than 20 people took part in the meeting, including representatives of EU Delegation to China, environmental and technological counsellors of such EU member countries as Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, and UK, as well as 3iPET Director Ms. Tang Yandong and other relevant representatives from FECO. 

At first, Mr. Chen Liang made a presentation about the goals, characteristics, organizational chart, functions of 3iPET, key work of cooperation with EU, and the demands to EU’s cutting-edge environmental protection technologies; then he briefed the key points delivered by Chinese Environmental Minister Chen Jining on the recent National Environmental Protection Conference. Meanwhile, he reviewed the environmental protection work during the 12th Five-year Plan Period and in 2015, stressing that the work ideas focusing on the improvement of environmental quality will be adopted to overcome the defects of ecological environment quality.

Ms. Vicky Pollard, first Counsellor Environment & Climate Change of EU Delegation to China, extended her celebration to the achievements of environmental protection of China in 2015, singing high praise of the work ideas focusing on the improvement of environmental quality. She suggested that China and EU should further deepen the cooperation of environmental protection technologies and jointly boost the environmental protection work of China. She also suggested that another meeting on 3iPET cooperation should be arranged to discuss more details in this regard.

In order to serve the overall goal of the improvement of environmental quality and promote the sound development of environmental protection undertakings, FECO launched the 3iPET on June 8, 2015. 3iPET is an international, intelligent, and integrated service platform of environmental protection technologies for domestic and foreign emission control and environmental management enterprises, governments, and industrial parks. With the Internet Plus technology, online and offline activities, 3iPET provides users with such services as integrated exhibition, assessment and recommendation to technologies, technical promotion, policy consulting, financial investment, training and communication.

3iPET has successfully completed work plans both online and offline since its inception. Now 3iPET has finished building more than 50 bases at home and abroad. Over 10 enterprises and public institutions have established partnership with 3iPET. In addition, focusing on key environmental protection work of water and soil pollution prevention, energy saving and emission reduction, 3iPET has initiated such activities as technical fair, technical promotion, technological contest, technical assessment, cooperation, communication and visit, with influences being promoted in the environmental protection sector at home and abroad. 3iPET will continue building a big data platform of domestic and foreign demands and supply, fair, transfer and financial services for the introduction, internationalization, and industrialized development of environmental protection technologies, serving the pollution management and environmental quality improvement in China and throughout the world.
