Consulting Services for European Investment Bank in China Program Officially Initiated

The European Investment Bank (the EIB) is the policy bank owned by and representing the interests of the European Union Member States. It is also the world’s largest multilateral borrower and lender. In recent years, the EIB is constantly increasing their investment in Chinese projects related to environment and climate change, promoting Chinese environmental protection. In March 2017, to further improve their project management standard in China, the EIB decided to hire a professional organization by open tendering to provide consultancy for them. FECO is equipped with extensive project management experience, a mature project management technical system and a professional staff. The Environmental Finance and Consultancy Services Center tendered on behalf of FECO and FECO was awarded successfully by the EIB. In August, FECO and the EIB officially signed the contract, marking the opening of a new business area of environmental finance and consultancy for FECO.
On 5th September 2017, the consulting services for EIB in China program kick-off meeting was held in the EIB Beijing Office. Deputy Director General of FECO Ms. Li Fang, Head of EIB Representation to China and Mongolia Mr. Virgil Nae and Manager of the EIB Public Sector in Asia and Pacific Dr. Tao Ren chaired the meeting.
First, Mr. Virgil Nae and Dr. Tao Ren gave Ms. Li Fang and the FECO team a warm welcome, then they gave a brief introduction of EIB’ s develop history, current situation and the status of EIB’s Chinese projects. Mr. Virgil fully acknowledged FECO’s qualifications and professional proficiency. The EIB believes that with the great support of FECO, EIB’s Chinese projects will be managed more properly.
Deputy Director General Ms. Li Fang gave a brief introduction about the progress that FECO made in implementation of multilateral environmental agreements, green finance development research and building the green “one belt one road” technical system. Ms. Fang said that FECO will devote all the resources in providing technical support to EIB, exploiting the advantages of FECO to the full in this program. And FECO values this program as a demonstration for future technical cooperation between environmental departments and financial departments. In the meeting, both parties see this very first program as a milestone in the relationship between the EIB and FECO and they look forward to future close cooperation programs in other fields.
Representatives from the Environmental Finance and Consultancy Services Center, the Climate Change and CDM Working Group of FECO and representatives from the EIB Luxembourg, the EIB Beijing office attended the meeting.
