Foreign Environmental Cooperation Center, Ministry of Ecology and Environment of China and Ministry of Agriculture and Environment​​ of Lao PDR Hold Environmental Cooperation Meeting

A delegation led by Dr. Li Xia, Deputy Director-General of the Foreign Environmental Cooperation Center, Ministry of Ecology and Environment (FECO/MEE), held a meeting with officials from the Lao Ministry of Agriculture and Environment (MAE) in Vientiane on the afternoon of September 4, 2025. The meeting was attended by Dr. Saynakhone Inthavong, Vice Minister of the MAE.
 
The two sides engaged in in-depth discussions on deepening China-Laos cooperation in ecological and environmental protection, and on ensuring the high-quality implementation of the “Environmental Protection Planning and Engineering Technical Assistance Project for Lao PDR” (hereinafter referred to as the “TA Project”). Broad consensus was reached during the talks..
 
Dr. LI Xia opened the discussion by tracing the evolution of China-Laos collaboration in environment and climate action, elucidating the strategic context, core objectives, and phased roadmap of the TA Project.​​ She underscored the ​​FECO MEE’s technical expertise and significant achievements in pivotal domains such as climate resilience, ​​ecosystem sustainability and pollutant mitigation. She proposed that both parties leverage the TA Project as a catalyst to elevate bilateral cooperation to new heights and generate synergies for advancing the ​​China-Laos Community with a Shared Future​​​​, fostering sustainable development and green resilience through mutually beneficial collaboration.​
 
Dr. Saynakhone warmly welcomed the Chinese delegation and praised the progress of China-Laos environmental cooperation. He ​highlighted the Lao government’s ​full support for the ​implementation plan of the TA Project and ​pledged comprehensive backing. ​He stressed the need for close collaboration between Chinese and Lao experts to ensure the ​project’s timely and effective implementation, ​emphasizing mutual benefits and tangible outcomes. ​He also expressed hope that this cooperation, ​including through the Lancang-Mekong Environmental Cooperation Mechanism, would ​advance joint efforts in areas such as international environmental agreements, urban climate resilience, and green regional supply chains.
 
 
The meeting was also attended by Mrs. Thongchanh Akhamakhet, Director General of the General Office of MAE; Mr. Oudomsack Philavong, Director General of the Department of Water Resources, MAE; Mr. Sounadeth Soukchaleun, Deputy Director General of the Department of Planning and Cooperation, MAE; Mr. Amphavanh Oudomdeuth, Deputy Director General of the Department of Environment, MAE; and Chinese experts from the FECO, MEE.
