The Environmental Convention Implementation Technical Center of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment Conducted Exchanges on Cooperation for Convention Implementation under GEF Funded Projects

On November 10, 2025, Ms. Li Xia, Deputy Director General of the Environmental Convention Implementation Technical Center/Foreign Environmental Cooperation Center of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment (hereinafter referred to as FECO), met with Mr. Anil Bruce Sookdeo, Coordinator for Chemicals and Waste at the Global Environment Facility (GEF), Ms. Zhou Xiaofang, Director of the Chemicals and Waste Hub at the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and Mr. Smail Alhilali, Director of the Circular Economy and Green Industry Division at the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), held discussions in Beijing on cooperation for convention implementation under GEF funded projects.
Deputy Director General Li Xia extended a warm welcome to the representatives from the above-mentioned organizations. She briefly reviewed the longstanding cooperation these organizations in implementing global environmental conventions such as the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants and the Minamata Convention on Mercury, as well as in chemical and waste management. She expressed deep appreciation for the support provided by the GEF, UNDP, and UNIDO to China’s green industrial transition and development, emphasizing the importance of innovative financing mechanisms, building a knowledge hub, and sharing China’s experience.
Representatives from the above-mentioned organizations affirmed China’s pivotal role, significant contributions, and substantial influence in chemical and waste management, industrial green transition, and global green supply chains. They noted that China’s successful experience in chemical and waste management has become globally recognized best practices, demonstrating the international value of China’s expertise. Participants expressed their commitment to continuously strengthening practical cooperation, sharing policy, technological, and project experience, and providing optimal solutions for global green and low-carbon transition, sustainable investment and financing, and related fields.
Relevant personnel from FECO’s divisions for the implementation of the Stockholm Convention and the Minamata Convention attended the meeting.
