FECO Holds Talks with the Ellen MacArthur Foundation

On 17 April 2026, Li Xia, Deputy Director General of the Foreign Environmental Cooperation Center (FECO), Ministry of Ecology and Environment, met in Beijing with the delegation of the Ellen MacArthur Foundation (UK) (EMF). The two sides exchanged views on topics such as plastic pollution control, green industrial transformation and future cooperation.
Deputy Director Genera Li outlined FECO’s work in supporting international environmental conventions, promoting global cooperation, advancing policy research and building global collaborative networks, as well as its contributions to addressing plastic pollution, researching green finance policies, and promoting the green transformation of industries. Sander Defruyt, the Strategy Lead of the Global Plastics Initiative , introduced the EMF's work in advancing global plastic circular economy transition and plastic pollution prevention and control, as well as its future development plans.
Both sides agreed that promoting green design, leveraging green finance and market mechanisms, formulating guiding policies, and improving recycling systems are all keys to achieving green transformation and circular economy in the plastics industry.They also discussed potential future collaboration areas including cross-value chain cooperation, business policy dialogues, transition finance, and sustainable development initiatives.
