Date: 06-03-2026

On May 20, 2026 local time, the China-Brazil Environmental Protection Policy Experience Exchange Dialogue, under the framework of the Subcommittee on Environmental and Climate Change of China-Brazil High Level Coordination and Cooperation Commission (COSBAN), was held in Brasília, the capital of Brazil. The meeting was attended by a delegation led by Li Xia, Deputy Director-General of the Foreign Environmental Cooperation Center of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment of China (FECO), and a delegation led by Pedro Mariano Martins Pontes, General Coordinator of Bilateral Cooperation of the Office for International Affairs of the Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change of Brazil.
Li Xia pointed out that as the supporting agency of the Subcommittee on Environmental and Climate Change of COSBAN, FECO has always been committed to deepening strategic collaboration between the two countries in the fields of environment and climate. By continuously strengthening dialogue, communication, and practical cooperation with the Brazilian side, FECO has driven China-Brazil cooperation to grow deeper and more concrete in areas such as addressing climate change, sustainable ecosystem management, environmental quality improvement, and sustainable value chains. She stated that FECO stands ready to deepen cooperation with Brazil under the framework of the Subcommittee, continuously expand mutual consensus on global environmental and climate governance, carry out policy dialogues and experience sharing around areas of common interest, promote the establishment of dedicated working groups, continuously improve the mechanism-building of the subcommittee, and create a model for South-South cooperation.
Pedro Mariano Martins Pontes extended a warm welcome to the Chinese delegation and pointed out that Brazil is exploring a new paradigm of sustainable production by innovating sustainable ecosystem management and developing the bioeconomy. As a key measure to implement the Work Plan of the Subcommittee on Environmental and Climate Change of COSBAN, Brazil looks forward to deepening experience-sharing with China in fields such as sustainable value chains and circular economy, ecosystem conservation and restoration, and persistent organic pollutants (POPs) management. This will also facilitate policy coordination under the framework of implementing multilateral international environmental conventions, jointly driving China-Brazil environment and climate change cooperation to a new height.
During the discussion session, representatives from both sides conducted in-depth exchanges and shared policy practices focusing on 3 topics: sustainable value chains, circular economy and bioeconomy; sustainable management of ecosystems and restoration; and nature and climate financing. The participating delegates unanimously expressed their hope to further leverage the mechanism of the Subcommittee on Environmental and Climate Change of COSBAN, to jointly promote practical cooperation between the two sides in key fields such as green and low-carbon development, addressing climate change, and sustainable ecosystem management, actively advancing the implementation of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
