On May 20, 2026, local time, the Foreign Environmental Cooperation Center of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment of China (FECO) holds talks with Brazilian partners. Li Xia, Deputy Director General of FECO, Pedro Cunto and Vanessa Pereira, Ministry Special Advisor at Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock of Brazil (MAPA), Jean Timmers, Global Lead for the Deforestation and Conversion Free (DCF) of World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), and Tiago Reis, DCF Markets Lead at WWF-Brazil, Rodrigo Bellezoni and Karoline Silva from World Resources Institute Brazil (WRI-Brazil), among others, participated in the meeting. The meeting conducted in-depth discussions and exchanges around topics such as China-Brazil sustainable supply chain construction, sustainable ecosystem management, green finance, and the low-carbon economy.
Li Xia introduced FECO's work progress in China-Brazil environmental and climate cooperation, implementation of international environmental conventions, and multilateral and bilateral environmental and climate cooperation. She stated that, as the supporting agency of the Subcommittee on Environmental and Climate Change of China-Brazil High Level Coordination and Cooperation Commission (COSBAN), FECO has always been committed to deepening strategic collaboration between the two countries in the environmental and climate fields, and has established a close cooperation network with multi-stakeholders from both countries and global partners. She looked forward to further strengthening dialogue, communication, and pragmatic cooperation with Brazilian partners in the future, so as to achieve more cooperation results in fields such as the construction of the China-Brazil green value chain partnership network, sustainable ecosystem management, green finance, and the low-carbon economy.
Representatives from the MAPA introduced Brazil's policy measures in promoting sustainable agricultural development, green supply chain construction, and green standards and certification, stating that the Brazilian side attaches great importance to cooperation between China and Brazil in the fields of agriculture and environment, and is willing to strengthen communication and alignment with FECO and all parties to jointly explore practical paths for sustainable ecosystem management and low-carbon agriculture while ensuring agricultural product trade, providing strong support for deepening cooperation in China-Brazil green value chains and sustainable low-carbon agriculture.
Jean Timmers extended a warm welcome to the delegation and highly praised the positive results achieved in China-Brazil environmental and climate cooperation. He introduced the work progress of WWF and other Brazilian institutions in fields such as China-Brazil environmental and climate policy and technical exchanges, green agricultural supply chain construction, sustainable agri-food system development, climate investment and financing, sustainable ecosystem management, and biodiversity conservation, and expressed willingness to actively promote the complementary advantages of both sides, deepen the partnership construction with FECO, continuously expand the breadth and depth of cooperation around topics of common concern through technical exchanges and joint research, and continuously enrich the outcomes of China-Brazil environmental and climate exchanges and cooperation.
The meeting was held at the WWF-Brazil office. Relevant personnel from WWF-Brazil, WRI-Brazil, the Federal University of Minas Gerais, the Institute for Climate and Society, and the Division of South-South Cooperation in FECO attended the meeting.
