China-Africa Capacity Building Seminar on Addressing Climate Change and "Africa Solar Belt" Successfully Held
Date: 07-02-2026

To implement the China-Africa Declaration on Climate Change Cooperation and strengthen consensus among African countries on addressing climate change, the Foreign Environmental Cooperation Center of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment (FECO) successfully organized the China-Africa Capacity Building Seminar on Addressing Climate Change and "Africa Solar Belt" from June 14 to 27, 2026, under the guidance of the Department of Climate Change of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment and the Department of Ecology and Environment of Jiangsu Province. A total of 22 participants from 10 African countries—Ethiopia, Burkina Faso, Cabo Verde, Comoros, Kenya, South Africa, Seychelles, Zambia, Gabon, and Malawi—attended the seminar.
The 14-day seminar consisted of classroom lectures, site visits, thematic discussions, and cultural exchange activities, and was held in Suzhou and Changzhou, Jiangsu Province. Experts and scholars specializing in environment and climate delivered lectures on topics including China’s ecological civilization, global climate governance, China-Africa cooperation in renewable energy investment and development, South-South cooperation on climate change, and climate finance policies and practices. These sessions enhanced participants’ understanding of global climate governance, China’s climate policies and actions, clean energy development, low-carbon transition, and related implementation pathways. During thematic discussions on green industrial development for climate action, participants shared experiences from their respective countries and engaged in in-depth exchanges on future China-Africa cooperation in climate change response, green industries, and innovative renewable energy applications.
During the seminar, participants visited leading clean energy enterprises, including GCL Group, Trina Solar, and Everbright Environment, where they learned about China’s achievements in the full industrial chain of photovoltaic modules, energy storage systems, and environmental protection equipment. Participants highly praised the technological innovation and large-scale application of these solutions.
This seminar marked the fourth capacity-building activity organized under the “Africa Solar Belt” Initiative since its launch as part of China’s South-South cooperation on climate change. It also represents a concrete action to implement President Xi Jinping’s “Ten-Hundred-Thousand” Initiative on South-South cooperation for climate change announced at the Paris Climate Conference. The seminar was supported by the China Environmental Protection Foundation (CEPF), UNICEF, and the World Resources Institute (WRI).
